Great Beauty Tips for Busy Ladies on the Go

Great Beauty Tips for Busy Ladies on the Go

OK, here’s part two of my Momtrends tips and tricks.

Valerie Monroe, the beauty editor at O Magazine, gave us a few really terrific tips to maintain youthful beauty. First, she recommended Retinoids. These are vitamin A derivatives that were first used to treat acne but have been found to unclog pores, boost collagen to reduce fine lines, and speed cell turnover to even out discoloration and smooth the skin. You should use it at night since the ingredients in these creams are sensitive to sunlight. And, be sure to slather on sunscreen the next day. Valerie recommended using this treatment on your face, neck, decolletage and hands since these are the areas that show age the most.

Speaking of sunscreen…use it! Buy moisturizers that already have SPF in them so you knock out two birds with one stone. If you want to reduce the number of products you use, get a tinted moisturizer with SPF and voila! you have a base!!! She likes Laura Mercier ($42).

Aveeno also makes a nice product ($16.99).

You don’t have to spend a ton for beautiful looking skin. Also, don’t glop on too much makeup. As our skin ages, makeup tends to sit on top of it and not blend in as much…

So, I mentioned yesterday that QVC came with the Bare Escentuals bareMinerals brand of makeup. So, I’m usually not the biggest proponent of this stuff because I don’t use much of it myself. When I sat down in the chair, I explained to the makeup artist that I am laaaaaaaazy when it comes to putting on my face. Usually, I slap on some lipstick or gloss and that’s it. She asked why I don’t use foundation and I explained that beyond the laziness, I also don’t like the feel of cakey, heavy makeup. The lightest liquid foundation still makes me feel all done up. And my skin usually protests…

She used the bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation on me. First of all, it’s a powder. So, it’s already lighter than any liquid or cream foundation I’ve ever tried. You can use one “coat” for a light cover or keep going until you are satisfied. Jessica Foust, the Bare Escentuals Educational Executive and on-air personality, gave us the best way to apply – STB. Swirl. Tap. Buff. Swirl your brush in the powder. Tap the excess off. Buff onto your skin. Seriously, even a makeup rookie like me can handle this. The thing I liked best is that the stuff is only made from five all natural ingredients. That’s probably why my skin didn’t freak out like it usually does.

The other stuff – blush, eyeshadow, liner, mascara are all wonderful too. I didn’t really FEEL a difference on my skin with those things, but that’s the stuff that doesn’t affect my skin much anyway. They have some lovely shades of eyeshadow that really made my eyes POP! Plus, their lip plumper is not as tingly as some of the other brands’ that I have used. It’s more of a nice gloss that give you a bit of a tingle but doesn’t make your lips feel like they’re on fire…

My makeup held up ALL night. Here’s the lovely “Speakbox” shadow that made my eyes so glamorous
